How to Use Mini Bolts

45" fabric is folded in half on the bolts. Fold fabric one more time from the fold to the selvages. (approx. 11")

Looking at the storage sheet, if you are right handed, the notches are located on the right side of the sheet.

Put sheet on the folded fabric about 11" from the left edge of fabric.
(see Illustration 1)

Make a 1" fold on the left edge of fabric and bring the fold to the notches and tuck them in. Back the fabric to the left until it is smooth, but still notched.
(see Illustration 2)

Wrap fabric.

Stop wrapping about 11" from end. Make a 45 degree fold.
(see Illustration 3)

Finish wrapping. Secure. (We like the bolt buddies)

For a PROJECT using 2 or more fabrics.

Fold fabric as in step 1.

Stack fabric with the longest on the bottom to the shortest on the top, all meeting at the right edge. You will pick up all the shorter pieces as you wrap. (see Illustration 4)

When you are within approx. 11" of the finish, STOP wrapping.

With your right hand, grab all of the remaining fabrics and bring them over to the left. (see Illustration 5)

Bring the top fabric (which is your longest fabric) back to the right and place on the table. Fold 45 degrees (see Illustration 6)

Bring the next fabric over to the right and lay over the 45 degree fold of the first fabric. You can feel where the fold is. Fold a 45 degree fold just a little higher than the original fold. Continue until all the fabrics have been folded. (see Illustration 7)

Now that the folding is finished, you are going to FINISH wrapping. When done you should be able to see all the fabrics you have on the mini bolt. Secure with a bolt buddy or your favorite method. If this is a project, tuck your pattern into the folds and tie with a ribbon. (see Illustration 8)

Fat Quarter Size

  • 1 fold = 2 layers (as on the store bolts)
  • 2 folds = 4 layers (as described above)
  • 3 folds = 8 layers to use the fat quarter sheets.

I'll put anything under a yard on a fat quarter sheet. If you fold your fat quarter (22 inch) into fourths you can put one on a sheet. (see Illustration 9)

If you fold the 18" into fourths you can stack 3 or more on one sheet. (see Illustration 10)

Begin by placing the sheet on the folded fabric about 6" from the left edge. Bring the fabric on the left to the notch. Tuck in the end and begin wrapping. Secure with a bolt buddy or your favorite method.
